Condo Coverage: What Areas Are You Covered?

7/29/2010 7:34:00 AM

When it comes to owning property, more recently owning a condominium is one of the popular routes people are taking. A common area of concern when insuring a condo is where does the master condo policy coverage end and your coverage begin. That information is contained in the Condo Association By-Laws, so it is imperative that you review the By-Laws prior to obtaining your insurance. The Condo Association purchases the “Master Condo Policy” to cover the building and all common areas. The Condo By-Laws will define where your building coverage should begin. Studs in or wall covering in are both common. Also, are you responsible for the floors? We advise that you obtain a copy of your contract and review your policy so you understand where coverage ends so that you are able to purchase adequate coverage to pick up where your master policy ends. We at Ross would be happy to review your by-laws so that we can help to coordinate with your policy and can help build your coverage to ensure that no matter what happens next in life, you’ll be covered.
