An Event To Remember

On Thursday, June 16th, members of Ross Insurance had the pleasure of joining together with women from all over the Pioneer Valley to celebrate the WBOA’s 2011 Business Women of The Year Event. The WBOA, or Women Business Owners Alliance, is a volunteer-run, non profit organization celebrating and encouraging women in the community to pursue their goals of becoming successful in their line of business. This empowering all female run organization has been giving back to the community and giving women knowledge in all areas of business, all while making long lasting friendships and serving as mentors to those just starting out. At their Women of The Year Event, both past and present board members of the WBOA joined together to celebrate the accomplishments of the nominated top 10 women in business as well as honor Dee Emery-Ferrero as 2011 Business Woman of The Year. Of the ten nominated business women, our team leader Maureen Ross O’Connell was one of the women acknowledged for her work performed in the community. Her accomplishments, along with the other nominated women, were praised by all who attended the event and all were awarded with a plaque for outstanding work performed. The event was held at The Delaney House in Holyoke as guests filled the room with conversation and laughter during the first few “Social Cocktail Hours”. More than three tables showcased local businesses and offered gift certificates for all different types of services. From consultations on how to better your business, to local massage services and even a hand knit shawl, guests were welcome to try their luck at the Chinese raffle and had plenty of options to choose from. The Delaney House served some of its finer fare, including a lobster and scallop risotto along with fresh bread and a variety of three different types of salad, as guests were welcomed to the food stations at their convenience. After dinner was served and guests settled in, they were invited into another room where the award ceremony would take place. During the ceremony, WBOA board members welcomed those being honored on stage and shared with the audience a few of the accomplishments that led these women to being nominated as “Outstanding women in Business”. Those being acknowledged included:

The night wasn’t complete without a few words from Dee Emery-Ferrero who shared with guests her struggles and encouragement about getting to where she is today, founder and President of Western MA Women’s Magazine. Dee’s story was truly encouraging and showed that anything is possible with determination and the support of her friends, family, Peter Picknelly Sr himself and of course board members of the WBOA. The night was overall inspiring and was a perfect way to unite and celebrate the drive and determination of women in the Pioneer Valley.
