Avon Walk for Breast Cancer

Posted by on May 2, 2014 in ,

For the month of May we will work to bring awareness to The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, an event that Mary Clark chose for her community focus. The Avon Walk is a fundraising event that happens in major cities throughout the country such as Boston, Washington DC, Chicago, San Francisco, New York and more. It is a two day event covering 39 “life-saving miles”. The money raised during the Avon Walk supports local programs that serve breast cancer patients and researchers committed to finding a cure.

Mary picked this for her community focus because one of her close friends Trudi Adams will be walking in Washington DC May 3rd and 4th. Mary has known Trudi for about 32 years. This is a story of true friendship that is inspiring. This is Trudi’s 12th year walking in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. She started participating in the walks because her good friends Janie and Sherri were both diagnosed with breast cancer. Trudi realized she wanted to commit herself to giving back and raise awareness for breast cancer.

After they finished their first walk in New York they were addicted and decided they wanted to participate in as many as possible. In 2006 Sherri was re-diagnosed with breast cancer and she was told there was nothing else they could do for her. Sherri was strong and determined not to give up so she got a second opinion. After getting a second opinion, they were able to save her life and she is now 7 years cancer free. Sadly, in 2008 they lost Janie to breast cancer when she was only 38. It is clear that Trudi has many reasons to be passionate about this cause. Her goal this year is to raise a minimum of $1800.00.

Mary supports Trudi 100% in her efforts to help raise money and awareness for breast cancer. Trudi is a good friend to Mary and her story is inspiring. Ross Insurance will be donating to the walk and dressing in pink on Friday May 2nd to show support for Trudi and everyone who is participating in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.
